The countdown to the annual Wanjin Christmas Season has begun this year. The lighting ceremony is expected to kick off on the evening of December 6. The Wanjin Basilica, along with the local Wanjin Village and Ulaljuc Tribe, have set up large-scale land art installations and 3D light projection shows in preparation for the annual celebration. This year’s Wanjin Christmas Season features a 13-meter-tall rose-shaped Christmas tree made of steel. When viewed from directly above, the shape of the tree forms a perfect rose. Delicate rose blossoms adorn the sturdy steel frame, creating a striking visual contrast that delivers a powerful sensory impact. For this event, Taipei 101’s lighting and fireworks design director, Tang Guojie, has been specially invited to oversee the lighting and special effects design. On December 6, when the tree is lit, it will release a fragrant mist with a rose aroma, shining brilliantly and filling the air with a delightful scent.

Meanwhile, Catholicism has been present in Wanjin Village for 153 years, and this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Wanjin Basilica being designated as a minor basilica by Pope [E.G.]. Father Xu Qingxian mentioned that Jesus began his preaching at around the age of 30, and the number “153” is the number of fish caught in the biblical miracle of Jesus' first post-resurrection sign. Therefore, the numbers “30” and “153” hold special significance for the Wanjin Basilica and its parishioners.

Additionally, an “Angel Wings” area has been set up at Chishan Elementary School. The corridor leading to the school features six paintings depicting biblical stories, and within the campus, nine angel statues have been erected, each representing dominion over fate, wisdom, suffering, emotion, miracles, dreams, smiles, time, and strength. Visitors to the area can feel as though they are receiving blessings from the angels.
