The Christmas season is approaching, and the Tainan City Government will hold the "2014 Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony" at 6:30 PM on the 7th in front of the Cultural Heritage Bureau Plaza. On the 12th, the second main Christmas tree and surrounding light displays at Xinying Cultural Center will be illuminated. There are a total of five festive zones across Tainan for the public to visit and enjoy.

In addition to the Tainan Railway Station, Tang De-chang Memorial Park, and the Taiwan Literature Museum, this year’s Tainan Christmas events have expanded to include the Xinying Cultural Center and Anping Harbor Recreation Wharf, bringing the total to five major festive zones. The main Christmas tree, previously located in front of the Taiwan Literature Museum, has been moved to the entrance of the Cultural Heritage Bureau on Nanmen Road due to renovation work on the museum’s facade. Meanwhile, the lighting ceremony originally planned for the Mayor’s Residence has been relocated to the Xinying Cultural Center as the residence is now under external management.

This year’s main Christmas tree on Nanmen Road stands 15 meters tall and is once again sponsored by Wild West World and Coretronic Technology. Set against the elegant backdrop of a century-old national historic site, the tree stands out even more. The tree’s decoration and light show design feature a hollowed-out lower section, allowing visitors to see the dazzling lights dancing inside. At the roundabout in front of Tainan Railway Station, Christmas cards are used to welcome visitors, while the most eye-catching displays—the Five Elements Sword Lion Kings and Classic Teddy Bear arrangements—are located at the Anping Harbor Recreation Wharf. These include five three-meter-tall Sword Lion Kings newly created by Zhigang Metal Co., Ltd., and Classic Teddy Bears that continue their healing, cute style, featuring a Mazu Bear symbolizing peace and blessings, and a Christmas Bear matching the festive atmosphere. These displays transform the first floor of the Jincheng Activity Center into a “Bears Love Tainan” Christmas wall through window display packaging.

The citywide Christmas light displays will be exhibited from the lighting ceremony on December 7th until March 5th, 2015. To enhance the Christmas atmosphere and encourage the public to use public transport to attend the lighting events, the Tourism Bureau has specially decorated 14 buses on Routes 88 (Anping Line) and 99 (Taijiang Line) of the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle with Christmas-themed elements. Starting at 3:30 PM on December 7th, seven bus trips on Route 88 passing by the main light zone will be part of the celebration.
