Taipei MRT’s Songshan Line officially opened in mid-November and offered free rides for a month. Now the promotion is coming to an end this Sunday (14th), and starting December 15th, normal fares will be deducted from your EasyCard.

The Songshan Line officially opened last month on the 15th, splitting the 15-year-old Xindian–Tamsui Line and returning to the original MRT network design. Although the new route has changed commuter habits, it has also drawn more crowds. The design of the “Songshan Station” exit right at Raohe Night Market has significantly increased the number of both domestic and international tourists visiting the night market.

The diverse public art installations are also a major highlight of the Songshan Line. At the transfer point between the MRT and Taiwan Railways, the large ceiling light art piece “Domain Sight,” made up of over 50,000 LED lights, showcases the colorful beauty of flowing rivers, attracting travelers to stop and take photos. Six artists have created themed mobile art galleries inside the train cars, with walls featuring the KUSO phrase “I’m guilty because I leave work on time,” authentically reflecting the inner thoughts of office workers. This allows passengers to discover new joys during their commute, rather than just staring at their phones.

The Songshan Line stretches 8.5 kilometers and includes eight underground stations: Ximen Station, Beimen Station, Zhongshan Station, Songjiang Nanjing Station, Nanjing Fuxing Station, Taipei Arena Station, Nanjing Sanmin Station, and Songshan Station. The entire line takes about 15 minutes to travel, and the original nine MRT transfer stations have increased to twelve. The one-month free ride promotion ends on December 14th, with normal fare deductions resuming on the 15th.
