Giant seashells unwashed away by the sea rest on the shore – Kaohsiung Qijin’s latest public art installation

Another large-scale public art piece has emerged in Kaohsiung to beautify the coastline. The brand-new massive artwork “Golden Sea Pearl,” created by the Kaohsiung Harbor Branch, features a huge golden seashell facing the sea, gazing toward passing ships and becoming the newest eye-catching landmark in southern Taiwan’s harbor area.

The Kaohsiung Harbor Branch stated that the “Golden Sea Pearl” cost tens of millions to create. While beautifying the environment, it also aims to enhance the public’s appreciation for artistic works. At the same time, the branch hopes that this new public art installation will attract more travelers to Qijin Coast Park.

The “Golden Sea Pearl” is designed in the shape of a semicircular seashell, with gold as its main color, evoking the imagery of a golden sky. Depending on the angle of sunlight, it displays varying shades of golden hues, offering visitors a fresh experience each time they visit. The accompanying artwork “Listening” is scattered around the shell, serving as the best guide for travelers seeking the Sea Pearl. The Kaohsiung Harbor Branch expressed hope that visitors will take the time to listen carefully to the sounds of the sea here.
