Taichung Hot Pot Restaurant: Showritang Hot Pot
‘Showritang’ boasts an architecturally aesthetic exterior and was already a well-known grilled meat restaurant in Taichung. Who would’ve thought that in mid-July, they’d launch a new brand — this time, selling hot pot!!
Wait… launching hot pot in the middle of summer… really?!
Actually, the owner re-planned the space. The first floor remains ‘Showritang Grilled Meat,’ while the second floor has been transformed into ‘Showritang Hot Pot.’ To cater to different foodies’ preferences, they now offer different meal choices…

The large ‘Showritang’ sign hangs prominently, and the highly design-forward façade makes it hard for passersby not to stop and take photos. In fact, the exterior didn’t really look like a grilled meat place to begin with, and now they’ve added hot pot. It turns out the owner’s background is actually in architecture.

We stood outside the building for a bit and at first couldn’t quite figure out where the entrance was. We walked around to the side and discovered there was more to it than meets the eye... (hahaha... does it feel like we’re here to view a pre-sale property?)
There’s a spacious waiting area right at the entrance. To keep guests entertained, they’ve built a large water feature... (though there are no "fish" in it!). The interior and exterior design offer ample space. We were invited to try their newly launched hot pot, and dining inside truly helped us relax...

Once inside, you can see the first-floor grilled meat seating area, with tables for about 2–6 people each, designed to offer a sense of private dining space. The architecture features high ceilings and a Japanese vibe, making it perfect for a gathering of friends who want to chat and have fun.

The three characters “Ji” (auspiciousness), “Xiang” (fortune), and “Fu” (blessing) are printed on large lanterns. Even if you don’t understand the meaning of these Chinese characters, just seeing their shapes can bring a sense of reassurance… they suggest “stability”!

When walking down the stairs from the second floor, you get a full view of the first floor. The dining areas are sectioned in various ways to maintain privacy, allowing guests to eat and chat comfortably. Looking up, the benefit of the high ceilings is apparent — large wooden buckets are hung from above, giving a grand and impressive visual effect…

Climbing up the stairs, we arrived at the second floor of ‘Showritang Hot Pot.’ We arrived a little early, so there weren’t many diners yet, hehehe... When is there a better time to take photos than now? Let’s post them now. The design of the high ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows, along with the lighting outside complementing the Japanese-style interior, evokes a strong appetite for the meal…

Even before being seated, you’ll spot the all-you-can-eat buffet area. Alright, no more beating around the bush — let’s dive straight into how to order:
A. All-You-Can-Eat Buffet:
Per-person basic consumption: NT$360 (shared pot), choose one type of soup base + all-you-can-eat buffet
B. À La Carte Hot Pot Main Dish:
Per-person basic consumption: NT$360 (shared pot) + main dish surcharge, choose one type of soup base + all-you-can-eat buffet + hot pot main dish
For details, please check the menu link:https://www.shounichidou.com/potmenu

In-store dining follows a basic per-person consumption of NT$360 for an all-you-can-eat self-service buffet. The counter offers a wide variety of international cuisines and seasonal vegetables, which look clean and very modern.

Japanese sushi — enjoy unlimited quantities. While waiting for the hot pot broth to boil, you can grab some ready-to-eat items to tide you over…

Sanuki udon noodles — besides cooking them in the pot, eating them cold is also a great option. Topped with cucumber, seaweed, and a drizzle of homemade sesame sauce, it’s refreshing and appetizing.

Seasonal fruits — today they had guava, tomatoes, and dragon fruit…

Edamame

There are plenty of topping choices — pick whatever you like. Honestly, as long as the broth is good, it brings out the flavors of the ingredients. For those who prefer stronger flavors, feel free to mix and match.

Seasonal vegetables — how can you have hot pot without a vegetable platter?
With the per-person basic consumption + all-you-can-eat buffet, everything is unlimited. From what we saw today, the current setup mainly offers the standard hot pot vegetable dishes.
The staff mentioned that during the opening period, they hope to better understand customer needs in order to make improvements, adjustments, and increase the variety of dishes.

Seasonal vegetables – Although the buffet bar offers unlimited self-service, to avoid waste, everyone is reminded to take only what they can eat. All vegetable items are “fresh” when cooked right after being taken!

The selection of hot pot ingredients is quite diverse, though the portion sizes seem a bit small. There’s a mix of mushrooms, wood ear fungus, corn, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, taro, and winter melon, all neatly arranged on clean trays, which are regularly cleared and refreshed by the staff.

The menu includes individually ordered meatballs, but surprisingly, you can also find them at the buffet bar too, along with fish balls and fish sausage. The buffet offers daily hand-chopped fish balls made with egg whites, which are said to alternate between fish and chicken. Today’s version was chicken...

Spicy miso fried chicken drumsticks – You can even have fried food while having hot pot. Aside from the ingredients waiting to be cooked, there are also some international dishes served at the buffet bar!

Thai-style chicken skewers

Hong Kong-style dumplings – The dumpling wrappers seemed a bit cold and hard. We mentioned it to the staff, and it turned out the new warming table hadn’t arrived yet... XD
Once all the equipment is in place, next time we’ll be able to enjoy warm dishes!

Fried foods – A variety of ready-made international dishes are offered, all freshly made by chefs daily and constantly replenished. In the future, a warming table will also be used to keep the food hot and preserve its flavor. Doesn’t this feel a bit like a buffet? Actually, today we came for hot pot!

In addition to sushi, udon noodles, glass noodles, and plain rice, there’s also homemade minced pork sauce, and apparently, curry will be available as well. Oh my, before the hot pot even arrives, the buffet bar has already been a feast!

Beverage area – The buffet bar actually has four blenders for making smoothies. You can choose from a variety of tea-based “smoothies.” Normally, when eating hot pot, you’d just get one smoothie after your meal to cut through the grease, but seeing four blenders out in the open really makes you appreciate how generous this place is!

As expected, you can still enjoy Japanese-brand ice cream after the meal. After being reminded by the staff, we found out there’s ice cream available. Even though we said we were super full, we still couldn’t resist grabbing a plate. The self-service buffet offers Japanese cuisine, seasonal fried foods, chilled drinks, tea and smoothies, and ice cream. The staff mentioned that these offerings change weekly.

Gourmet Hot Pot Ingredients Set (à la carte) – $138
Braised duck blood, soft tofu, youtiao (fried dough sticks), large intestines (recommended for spicy or satay broth bases). In addition to the minimum spend of $360 per person (selecting one type of broth base) to access the self-service buffet, you can also order à la carte items from the menu.

Assorted Meatball & Dumpling Platter (14 items) – $198
Choose from 14 types of meatballs and dumplings. For larger groups who love meatballs and dumplings, there are 7 flavors to pick from. (Psst… the self-service buffet also generously offers meatballs and dumplings. Don’t miss out, budget-conscious friends!)

For tables of about 2–6 people, if you’re going for the à la carte ingredient sets, the value isn’t great considering the price, since most items come in servings of just two, which doesn’t divide evenly. It’s suggested that the portions for à la carte options be increased so everyone at the table can try a bit of everything.

The various vegetables on the buffet bar are fairly fresh and not too watery. Staff frequently clear empty plates, and the service quality is truly commendable. Once the broth starts boiling, it’s time to toss in these fresh veggies. Cooking hot pot is all about adding plenty of vegetables to enhance the broth’s sweetness—eat more greens, stay healthy (and avoid gout)!

As the team photographer, I was serious about making the udon noodles look nice and presentable for the photo. With the recent hot weather, a refreshing noodle dish with homemade cheese sauce was just the thing—and before I knew it, the plate was empty. Udon can also be cooked in the pot, but be mindful of the chewiness: just a quick blanch is enough to enjoy.

Qian, who arrived late, immediately asked, “Is there any rice?” The staff, with super sharp ears, quickly replied, “Yes, and there’s minced pork sauce too!”
In a flash, a bowl was brought over. After one bite, the compliments kept coming—it’s traditional minced pork sauce with plain rice, simply irresistible…

The international dishes at the buffet bar change from time to time, so getting your favorite snack is a bit of a lucky draw!

A large table was quickly filled with an array of ingredients. For the sake of good photos, a group shot was definitely in order!

American Wagyu Snow Beef (15oz) – $380
As soon as it was served, the beautiful marbling was on full display. The generous portion presentation was truly impressive!

When you lift a slice, it truly lives up to its “king-sized” name. Placing the beef in the spicy broth and giving it a few quick swishes before eating, it carries a peppery aroma without being overwhelmingly spicy. For those who don’t love extreme heat but enjoy a bit of spice, this level is just right!

Jumbo Black Pork Collar (15oz) – $380
Just when you thought it couldn’t get bigger, here comes the jumbo size. After the king-sized beef, the jumbo black pork arrives. This is the shop’s recommended black pork, which can be lifted straight from the boiling pot. The texture has a slight crispness but isn’t dry—could it be because “black pigs” run wild in the mountains? (chill runs down the spine…)

The size of the slices is immediately noticeable—they’re even bigger than a palm. Lately, the shop has been slicing the meat pretty generously!

It’s not just because my face is small—these black pork slices are genuinely huge. Actually, my face is pretty small too. (Who are you calling…)

King Crab Seafood Platter - $990 (subject to seasonal adjustments)
This seafood platter includes king crab females, blue diamond shrimp, fresh rolls, fresh fish, scallops, and clams — yet another inevitable "gout hot pot" presentation!! The whole fresh roll (medium size) is sliced, along with richly fatty salmon pieces. It’s the first time eating salmon cut into whole chunks; the fat melts in your mouth upon biting, with no fishy taste at all. The shrimp used are Thai shrimp, accompanied by clams and scallops.

The star of the seafood platter is, of course, the "king crab." The staff mentioned that they use bread crabs, which have sweet and tender meat, with plump roe and crab paste in the belly. Before dining, they thoughtfully pre-crack the crab legs to make them easier to cook and eat.

Both the shrimp and the crabs are incredibly rich and succulent, especially with that generous amount of crab roe — it’s truly irresistible...

Each table can accommodate about 2–6 people (shared pot), with a total of four broth bases to choose from: Premium XO Sauce Satay Hotpot, Tianxiang Fermented Cabbage Hotpot, Sichuan-Style Spicy Chili Hotpot, and Enpo Salt Lake Kelp Hotpot. For groups of two or more, you can select two broth bases to be used in a shared pot style. Therefore, if there are more than two diners, you get to enjoy two different broths. Today’s choices were the Enpo Salt Lake Kelp Hotpot and the Sichuan-Style Spicy Chili Hotpot. The rich and bold Sichuan spiciness hits your taste buds with noticeable heat and a fragrant peppery taste.
For the Hokkaido kelp broth base, it’s best paired with freshly prepared self-service vegetables, along with large slices of meat and hearty seafood. The ingredients are tender and fresh in every bite, making it easy to feel like a master chef. The Sichuan-Style Spicy Chili broth has a rich numbing and spicy aroma, with a bright red color. There’s a slight tingling spiciness on the tongue, but the overall heat level of the broth is quite tolerable.
A 15-ounce American king crab snowflake beef or *15-ounce jumbo black pork collar meat — it’s really “bigger than your face.” Placed in the pot to cook, the snowflake beef has a soft, tender texture without being chewy, and the black pork has a crisp bite without being dry. Recommended for foodies to come try and compare — is the meat bigger, or is your face bigger?

Meiji ice cream, enjoy unlimited at the self-service buffet...

Shouritou has created a new brand concept of ‘shared pot x self-service buffet.’ In addition to the existing "barbecue," they’ve also launched a new self-service hotpot brand table...
With shared pot and duality broth base options:
For those wanting a simple meal, the basic consumption of $360 allows unlimited access to the self-service buffet. For those starving, beyond the basic $360, you can also order additional large slices of meat and fresh seafood to enjoy without limits. Launched during the peak summer season, the "hotpot" brand offers guests a new and different experience — sometimes barbecue, sometimes hotpot.

Oh, and... during the opening period, diners who check in at “Shouritou Hotpot” will receive a complimentary pork trotter!! (That’s pig’s foot, XD!) The chilled trotter is sliced and garnished with floral cuts, offering a visually creative aesthetic. After a brief blanch in the pot, it’s ready to eat — the meat is crispy, not greasy.

The shop’s official page shared that, as they’ve just been awarded the 2017 German Red Dot Design Award, they’re joyfully extending a half-price promotion until August 31st... The basic personal consumption for the hotpot is only “half price,” just $180!! By reservation only, so those interested are advised to book in advance.
Limited-time event:
a. The half-price offer applies only to the basic self-service buffet consumption (10% cleaning fee is not discounted), and does not include à la carte items
b. The personal basic consumption discount is calculated based on the adult rate
c. This promotional offer cannot be combined with other discounts
