Former Taipei Children’s Amusement Park Transformed into Cultural Zone; Ferris Wheel and Carousel to Become Exhibits

As the new Children’s Amusement Park officially opens on the 16th, the old one will bid farewell on the 14th, transitioning into what will be planned by the Taipei City Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs as the “Yuanshan Cultural District.” But the public need not worry about the disappearance of the classic rides—the ferris wheel, double-decker carousel, and more will be fully preserved.

Originally known as the “Taipei Municipal Children’s Amusement Center,” the park has been rooted in Yuanshan since 1934. It was Taiwan’s earliest and only government-run children’s amusement park, featuring attractions such as Yesterday World, Tomorrow World, and the Canyon Train—beloved childhood memories for generations of Taipei residents.

With the completion and upcoming operation of the new Children’s Amusement Park, the future of the old park has been designated as part of an urban museum cluster. Iconic rides such as the city’s only remaining single-arm suspended gondola ferris wheel and the double-decker carousel will be carefully preserved as future attractions. The Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs also plans guided tours of the old park to allow visitors to relive their childhood memories.
