To meet the growing demand for checked luggage among travelers and enhance competitiveness on international routes, All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced that starting January 8, 2015, the free checked baggage allowance for economy class passengers on all ANA international routes will be increased from one piece to two.

ANA stated that with the expansion of its international route network, the number of travelers visiting Japan increasing year by year, and the anticipated strong demand for travel between Asian countries and North America, the free checked baggage allowance for all ANA international routes will be changed from one piece to two, effective January 8, 2015 (based on ticketing date). Each piece of checked luggage in economy class must not exceed 23 kilograms in weight, and the total sum of the three dimensions must not exceed 158 centimeters. The weight and size restrictions for first class and business class remain unchanged.

Due to the change in baggage allowance regulations, the promotional campaign offering “one additional free checked baggage piece for economy class passengers departing from Asia (excluding Japan) only,” which was scheduled to run from September 1 of this year until March 31, 2015, will also be ending early on January 7, 2015.

Ms. Lin, a frequent traveler to Japan, said that with the current low Japanese yen exchange rate, an increase in the number of allowed checked bags per person is very beneficial for purchasing large appliances such as rice cookers and induction heating rice cookers in Japan to bring back to Taiwan – a big plus for travelers.
