Crispy fried chicken and sausage wraps fly off the shelves – V Air’s inaugural flight meals sell out

Taiwan’s homegrown low-cost carrier “V Air” officially launched today (17th), with its inaugural flight ZV005 departing from Taoyuan Airport at 6:40 AM bound for Bangkok, Thailand, and landing smoothly at Don Mueang Airport at 9:30 AM local time. The mission was successfully completed under the welcome of Songsaenthong Tham, Deputy General Manager of Don Mueang Airport Management Company.
V Air uses the Airbus A321 aircraft, which has 194 seats. The aircraft’s livery features the mascot “Wei Bear,” showcasing the adorable bear to the world while also raising awareness about the conservation of Taiwan’s black bears. The outbound flight carried 184 passengers, with an almost full load factor composed entirely of individual travelers, while the return flight also achieved over 60% occupancy.

V Air Chairman Lin Ming-feng stated at the launch ceremony that he was delighted with the smooth inauguration of V Air and expressed gratitude for the strong support from the “Bear Fans.” V Air is Taiwan’s first fully locally-owned low-cost airline, which took over three years to conceptualize and complete. The airline’s mission is to bring authentic Taiwanese flavor to the international stage. From the website design to in-flight services, everything is tailored from the perspective of Taiwanese people. With the official launch, the airline hopes to win the love of more Taiwanese travelers, and as more destinations are added in the future, it aims to allow more international passengers to experience Taiwan’s rich hospitality from the moment they board.
Regarding future route expansions,Lin Ming-feng mentioned that any destination reachable within four hours is a potential target for new routes. In addition to charter flights to Chiang Mai and Angkor Wat, the airline plans to include Japan and South Korea routes next year, with Malaysia also under consideration.
To enhance V Air’s uniqueness and showcase a lively, youthful, and passionate image, in addition to using bright colors like white and blue for the uniforms, V Air will also introduce each crew member and their unique traits in a runway-style presentation on every flight. When explaining onboard safety measures, the airline will adopt a more dynamic approach compared to traditional, rigid formats, incorporating expressive gestures and body movements to capture passengers’ attention, turning what used to be a dull safety briefing into one of the most anticipated in-flight entertainment experiences.

The two winners of ten-year free flight tickets for naming V Air during the initial preparation phase also flew on the inaugural flight today with their families and friends. The Chinese naming winner, Ms. Huang Yi-ling, shared her naming process, saying that the initial idea for the airline name was “We Fly,” because “We” sounds similar to the Chinese “Wei,” leading to the Chinese name “威航 (V Air).” She never expected to win and felt very honored.
Comparing her previous experiences with Scoot and Jetstar, Huang Yi-ling felt that V Air’s seats were more spacious. She was also impressed by the chewy texture and freshness of the focaccia bread she tried on the flight. Having mostly flown with low-cost carriers to Japan in the past, she said that if V Air continues to expand its Southeast Asian routes, it could offer her new travel experiences.

The highly anticipated in-flight meals were finally revealed before the launch. V Air’s menu mainly features classic Taiwanese snacks such as crispy fried chicken, rice balls, and sausage wraps. For passengers who prefer Western flavors, there are also options like red wine braised chicken and focaccia.V Air’s Senior Marketing Manager Tang Dun-tai stated that all the in-flight meals on the inaugural flight sold out, with the most popular items being pork rib rice, focaccia, and crispy fried chicken. The crispy fried chicken was so popular that it sold out instantly, and Tang Dun-tai noted that since it could only be purchased on board and not pre-ordered, the prepared quantities were insufficient. They plan to increase the supply in the future.
According to the reporter’s observations, although some processes and announcements were slightly unfamiliar due to the crew’s first hands-on experience, every staff member responded to passenger requests as quickly as possible, leaving a positive impression on both the meals and service attitude for those on the inaugural flight. V Air Chairman Lin Ming-feng gave the flight an impressive score of 80 out of 100 and expressed hopes for further improvement.
The V Air “Taipei–Bangkok” route will offer one daily round-trip flight in the future. The outbound flight departs at 6:40 AM and arrives at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport at 9:10 AM local time, while the return flight leaves Bangkok at 10:10 AM and arrives in Taiwan at 3:30 PM, making it a “go early, return early” flight schedule. V Air also announced that it plans to launch a charter flight to Angkor Wat on January 6, 2015, and the Chiang Mai route on January 7.
