The highlight of the Wanjin Christmas Festival: Live performances and light shows on Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is the highlight of the Wanjin Christmas Festival, which will reach its peak on December 24. That evening, in addition to traditional ceremonies at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary such as the “Welcome of the Holy Child” and Midnight Mass, the light show will feature a live performance by the Pingtung United Wind Orchestra. The majestic brass music combined with the visual effects of the light show is especially breathtaking.

The Tourism and Communication Department stated that there will be five light show performances on the 24th, at 18:30, 19:00, 19:30, 23:00, and 23:50, each featuring wind music. The special 23:50 edition will also include surprise segments. In the evening, behind the basilica, there will be the “Angels’ Voice” concert, where the nationally renowned Tayu Elementary School Aboriginal Song Choir, Sun Yat-sen University Jazz Band, autistic pianist Li Shangxuan, and Pingtung University of Science and Technology Guitar Club will provide beautiful music for the festive night. The Wulaluzi Tribe will also host a Golden Christmas Music Party and tribal market, keeping the celebration lively all night long.

To prevent excessive vehicle congestion in Wanjin Village and Chishan Village, this year’s Wanjin Christmas Festival has designated seven parking areas: at the Wanjin military camp, Noah’s Ark Ecological Park, Wanluan Fire Station, Jiazo Activity Center, Wanluan Elementary School, and Fuxing Road in Wanluan Township, with a total capacity of over 2,300 vehicles. Among them, the Wanjin military camp can accommodate the most—up to 1,000 cars—followed by 800 at Fuxing Road and 300 at the Wanluan Fire Station.

Visitors heading to the Wanjin Christmas Festival can take shuttle buses, which operate on three routes. Route A runs from the Pingtung Bus Terminal (train station) to the Wulaluzi Tribe; Route B serves the Wanjin military camp to the Wulaluzi Tribe; and Route C connects Wanluan Township Office, Wanluan Elementary School, Wanluan Fire Station, Jiazo Elementary School, and to Dongshan Intersection in Chishan Village. Among these three shuttle routes, Route B begins at 11:00 AM, while Routes A and C start at 4:00 PM. Parking lots will open in coordination with shuttle bus operating hours. Due to the narrow roads in the Wanjin area, shuttle bus schedules may be affected—please remain patient.

Additionally, shuttle buses will run until 2:00 AM on the 25th. Route A shuttles returning toward Pingtung Train Station will extend service until 1:00 AM, and at 2:00 AM, a direct Taiwan Railways train will depart from Pingtung Train Station to Kaohsiung Train Station. The public is encouraged to make use of these options.
