Four Renowned Musicians Take the Stage – The "Winter Love Ballad" Composed for the Lanyang Museum

This year, the Lanyang Museum launched the "Lanyang Museum Four Seasons Music Festival," featuring three seasons of beautiful melodies—indoor classical music in spring, jazz in summer, and ethnic music in autumn—that filled the museum with vibrant tunes. This weekendstarting December 27, the museum will present the "Winter Love Ballad" concert, inviting folk music master Jian Shangren, Golden Melody singer Wang Hailing, composer Chen Mingzhang, and soprano diva Xu Jingchun to perform two consecutive weekends in the afternoon at the Lanyang Museum.

Lin Chiu-fang, Director of the Yilan County Cultural Affairs Bureau, stated that the architectural design of the Lanyang Museum itself incorporates strong musical elements. Architect Yao Renxi transformed the notes of Vivaldi’s "Four Seasons Concerto" into the individual stone tiles covering the museum, symbolizing the museum’s exceptional nature and its inseparable bond with music.

On December 27, through sponsorship by the Lanyang Museum and the East Ocean Marine Hot Spring Hotel, the composer and original performer of the Taiwanese folk song "January Tune," as well as the first Golden Melody Award winner for composition, Jian Shangren, will lead the "Pastoral Music Troupe" to perform beautiful old and new tunes through a blend of storytelling and singing. On December 28, the performance will feature Wang Hailing, who rose to fame in the folk music scene with "Forgot Who I Was" and won the championship at the third Golden Melody Awards.

During the New Year holiday break on January 3, Taiwanese music poet, guitarist, and moon guitar player Chen Mingzhang, along with the Formosa Tamsui Street Singers, will take the stage. On January 4, the finale will feature soprano diva Xu Jingchun, a multiple-time winner of the Golden Melody and Golden Tripod Awards, who will perform alongside piano poet Wang Junjie. Together, they will revisit classic songs that captivated audiences during their youth.

Chen Ching-chi, Executive Director of East Ocean Marine, also noted that in-depth cultural tourism combined with environmental conservation and sightseeing is a current trend in the leisure industry. He hopes that through such large-scale cultural events, more people will visit Yilan and explore the rich collections of the Lanyang Museum.

As 2015 marked the fifth anniversary of the Lanyang Museum’s opening, in conjunction with the music festival, the museum also launched the "Time Postcard" campaign. The public can collect free postcards at various cultural venues across Yilan and, during the "Winter Love Ballad" event period, write messages of blessing to drop into a dedicated mailbox. The Lanyang Museum will mail these postcards back to participants in August next year to share the joy of the museum’s fifth anniversary. October 16 is Yilan’s Commemoration Day and also the Lanyang Museum’s anniversary. Visitors presenting a "Time Postcard" with a postmark or the museum’s commemorative stamp during October next year can enjoy the privilege of "two people visiting the permanent exhibition with one person admitted free (based on the lower ticket price)."
