For those who don’t speak Japanese but want to explore Japan’s historic city — Nara — in depth, there’s now an easier way to travel Up！Just make an online reservation, and the “Nara Foreign Language Tour Guide Association,” which offers free Chinese-guided tours for foreign visitors, will provide you with the most detailed information and commentary.

The Nara Foreign Language Tour Guide Association was established in April 2007 to provide voluntary guided services in Korean, Chinese, and English for foreign visitors to Nara. Its members regularly study Japanese history and culture and are registered volunteer guide-interpreters with the Japan National Tourism Organization. By making a reservation on the association’s website before your trip, you can enjoy free guided tours at sites such as Todai-ji, Kasuga Taisha, Nara-machi, Toshodai-ji, Yakushi-ji, and Horyu-ji.

Free Guided Tour Routes in Nara
Basic Route — Nara Park Tour (3–4 hours): Kofuku-ji → Todai-ji → Kasuga Taisha → Nara Park
Route Two (5 hours): Basic Route → Nara-machi
Route Three (Half-day Tour): Horyu-ji
Route Four (Half-day Tour): Yakushi-ji → Toshodai-ji
One-Day Tour: Basic Route → Nara-machi → Japanese Sake Tasting Experience (400 yen)
Tour Guide Application
1. Fill in your name, number of people, gender, nationality, schedule, and preferred language, then email to nara-guideclub@xvh.biglobe.ne.jp to apply.
2. Application Deadline: 10 days before the scheduled tour date.
3. After applying, the Nara Foreign Language Tour Guide Association member assigned to your tour will contact you via email regarding the day’s arrangements.
4. Transportation costs and meal expenses incurred during the tour are to be covered by the applicant.
5. No compensation will be provided for unforeseen accidents such as injuries or damage to belongings; please ensure you have insurance in advance.
6. Requests to cancel a tour must be made at least 3 days in advance.
* In cases where there are many cancellation requests, applications may be declined. We apologize for any inconvenience.
