Winter Trip to Penghu: Hunt for Shigandang & Collect Stamps for a Limited-Edition Mug

To promote the unique charm of Penghu’s Shigandang culture, the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration has launched the “Winter Fun in Penghu: 'Shi' (Stone) Is Quite Something” stamp-collecting campaign. Travelers who participate can exchange a limited-edition mug. The event officially kicks off on January 1.

The campaign runs from January 1 to March 31, 2015. Visitors can present their flight or ferry tickets to Penghu at the Makung Airport Tourist Service Center or the Penghu Visitor Center to receive an exclusive event brochure and a Shigandang stamp card. By collecting four or more designated Shigandang stamps during the campaign period, participants can redeem one limited-edition mug. There are also giveaways such as USB drives and playing cards.

Zhang Longcheng, director of the Penghu Scenic Area Administration, explained that Shigandang (stone towers) are primarily used to ward off evil spirits, calm winds, avoid misfortune, and protect villages, ensuring peace and health. They are commonly found at village entrances, windy spots, seaside areas, bridgeheads, locations facing direct roads, or even in front of homes. This Shigandang hunt and related activities aim to promote and reinterpret these traditional historical and island-lifestyle elements with new meaning, creating a deep cultural journey beyond the usual tourist routes.
