January is the best time of year to admire plum blossoms in Taiwan. Popular spots include Xinyi Township in Nantou and Meishan Township in Chiayi County.Among them, Fenggui Dou, Wusong, and Niuchoukeng in Xinyi Township are known as the “Three Great Plum Blossom Viewing Areas of Nantou.” They have all recently entered their blooming season, with the plum blossoms quietly unfurling. The next two weeks are the perfect time to go.

The plum gardens in Xinyi Township span approximately 1,500 hectares. Around eighty percent of Taiwan’s plum trees are concentrated in Fenggui Dou. From elevations of 400 to 1,200 meters, the abundance of plum blossoms is truly spectacular, forming a breathtaking sea of flowers. Wusong, at a higher elevation, not only offers dense plum blossoms at this time of year but also provides views of the distant scenery. Looking down, you can also see vast fields of rapeseed flowers at the foot of the mountain. Enjoy both sights and decide whether the elegant plum blossoms or the rapeseed flowers steal the show. When visiting Niuchoukeng for plum blossoms, head to the famous Li Family Plum Garden Farm, a popular filming location for many TV shows and commercials. When traveling in Nantou, don’t miss these three major plum blossom viewing areas and immerse yourself in the joy of being surrounded by plum blossoms.

Besides Nantou,Meishan Park in Meishan Township, Chiayi County, is also a great place to admire plum blossoms. Once one of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Chiayi,” known as “Plum Cove Moonlight,” the park features amenities such as a children’s rest area, flower stands, and walking trails. The park is covered with 3,000 plum trees that bloom like snow across the mountains.There are also plum products for sale, allowing visitors to enjoy the rich essence of the plum-growing region through taste, smell, and sight.
