Want to ring in the Lunar New Year with a different vibe this year? The Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei is launching its first-ever "late-night" reunion dinner buffet, allowing guests to enjoy their meal while staying up to see in the New Year.

Reunion dinners at hotels are becoming increasingly popular. Buffet-style reunion dinners at major five-star hotels are often fully booked as early as October or November, and with the recent opening of various buffet restaurants since the end of last year, they have become one of the most sought-after options for New Year’s Eve dinners. With nearly 90% of reservations already taken for the two seating times at Far Eastern Hotel’s café on New Year’s Eve, the hotel has added a "late-night session" from 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM this year, offering a unique atmosphere for the reunion dinner and countdown.

Taipei Far Eastern reports that for last year’s New Year’s Eve reunion dinner, all private dining rooms in its restaurants were fully booked before the end of October, with non-private rooms reaching 90% occupancy. This year, the hotel will also open up around 20 exclusive private dining rooms on the guest room floors of the second floor for reunion dinner bookings for the first time.

Taiwanese people prefer buffet-style meals, especially on New Year’s Eve. Aside from Taipei Far Eastern, the Regent Taipei’s buffet restaurant (MUBAR) at Lih Hall also had all 1,000 seats for its two New Year’s Eve sittings completely booked. The Sheraton Taipei’s most popular buffet, “Twelve Kitchen,” had both of its New Year’s Eve sittings fully reserved as early as September and October last year, and no tables are available from the first to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year either.
