The management office of the Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan Coastal National Scenic Area recently planned to create a “Taiwan Romantic Boulevard” in central and southern Taiwan. It even considered following the example of South Korea’s Jeju Island by developing an “erotic theme park” in areas such as Hukou Wetlands in Kouhu Township and Yiwu Farm. The official concept was first revealed on the official website on the 12th, which many netizens found outrageous, prompting the Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan Scenic Area Office to quickly clarify that “it is still in the conceptual stage” and urgently remove the content.

In recent years, the Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan Coastal National Scenic Area has built numerous installations related to love and happiness around the Beimen Visitor Center, making it a top choice for many couples taking pre-wedding photos. Among them, the “Crystal Chapel,” designed to resemble Guam’s St. Laguna Chapel by the Sea, appears like an isolated island under the blue sky, attracting large crowds of visitors.

The Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan Scenic Area Office clarified on the 13th that because the scenic area has recently become a popular spot for wedding photography, they wanted to create a “Taiwan Romantic Boulevard.” The themes on the website included three parts: “Paradise of Love,” “Perfect Spots for Wedding Photos,” and “Silk Road of Love,” along with the final act — the “Erotic Theme Park.” Currently, all these are still under discussion and in the conceptual phase. The overly bold wording had not been reviewed and was mistakenly marked as a future plan, causing confusion among netizens. It has now been removed, and future plans will involve seeking opinions from various sectors.

Due to the website revamp on January 1, 2015, by the Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan Coastal National Scenic Area Management Office under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the content under the “Destinations” section, specifically the “Taiwan Romantic Boulevard” webpage, represents a future planning direction.

As the scenic area has recently become a popular spot for wedding photography, there was a desire to plan a “Taiwan Romantic Boulevard” theme.
