PiePai Café in Zhongli, Taoyuan, saw a constant stream of visitors when it first opened last year. In July this year, its second branch opened on Daxing Road in Taoyuan City. The bestseller, “Rainbow Fresh Cheese,” uses natural food coloring imported from the U.S., and the fresh cheese, just taken out of the freezer, feels like eating ice cream—cool yet rich in texture. The Taoyuan branch continues the Korean-style decor, featuring marble-tiled walls, complemented by green plants and photo props, making girls swoon in its dreamy bubble world.

Opened just in July, Chen Shi • Casual Desserts is located on the periphery of Zhongyuan University, a hotspot for food options. The shop creatively combines popular desserts such as black sugar grilled crème brûlée and tiramisu with shaved ice, available in limited quantities daily. The owner uses Okinawan black sugar shaved ice as the base, drizzled with black sugar syrup and caramel sauce, then topped with a crème brûlée-like topping, which is torched with a flame gun for about 30 seconds. Before you even taste the cold treat, your eyes get to enjoy a fiery show.

3. Huaguo Haori
Hidden within Zhongyuan Night Market, Huaguo Haori’s sponge cake shop also opened in July. The shop owner exclusively offers “Condensed Milk Rose Sponge Cake,” made by adding edible rose petals to the batter and drizzling condensed milk on top once cooled. You can taste a faint rose aroma while chewing, along with four other flavors: original, cocoa crisp, and caramel salt. Hidden flavors are occasionally launched. Even the packaging box resembles an egg carton, totally melting hearts of those with a sweet tooth.
