Romantic Lakeside Scenic Spot: “Barker Memorial Park” Expansion Opens on the 31st!

The “Barker Memorial Park Expansion Project,” which won the National Excellence in Construction Award in 2012, officially opened on January 31. Designed with principles of “reduction,” “lightness,” and “ecology,” it creates a public living space with local character. In addition to the original plantings, flowering species such as Bauhinia, neem, Taiwan creepers, and golden trumpet trees have been added, enriching the diversity of the plant landscape and providing leisure, cultural, and educational functions for the surrounding area.

Among the new additions, the Environmental Education Center covers an area of approximately 256 square meters. To support Tainan City’s goal of becoming a low-carbon city, the center has incorporated solar thermal panels and rainwater/sewage recycling facilities. In addition to offering ecological interpretation services on a regular basis, the center will collaborate with nearby elementary schools and related community organizations in the future, using Barker Memorial Park as a base for environmental education to promote conservation efforts.
