Taipei’s New Landmark！ The Big Scallop by the Tamsui River—“Dihua Riverside Overpass Viewing Platform”

Built during the Qing Dynasty, Taipei City was designed with Feng Shui principles, using Datun Mountain as its backdrop and the Tamsui River as its water element. It is the last city in modern Chinese history constructed according to Feng Shui. The “Dihua Riverside Overpass Viewing Platform,” located in Dihua Sports Park in Taipei’s West District, takes this historical context as its blueprint. It showcases the triangular geographical relationship of old Taipei districts—“Mengjia, Chengnei, and Dadaocheng”—as well as the city’s major modern transportation routes, all visible from the viewing platform.

From a distance, the “Dihua Riverside Overpass Viewing Platform” resembles a large scallop resting quietly by the riverbank, sharing the Tamsui River’s sunset hues. At night, the lighting makes the platform even more striking. Look down to see the city’s main traffic routes outlined in LED strip lights—Zhongshan Expressway, Tamsui MRT Line, Banqiao-Nangang MRT Line, Chongqing N. Road, and Minzu W. Road—offering a glimpse of the paths you travel daily. Additionally, the platform features family-friendly interactive water play facilities and an event stage area. Come visit on a weekend to admire the Tamsui River sunset and the unique floor design of the viewing platform.
