A few days ago, a friend from Japan visited Taiwan, so Wisely dragged Little D along to join this year’s Fubon Marathon in front of Taipei City Hall. For these two who usually sleep in on weekends, getting up early for a morning run took real determination. But luckily, they had researched nearby food options beforehand, so after the race, they dashed straight to the nearby Guangfu Market to hit the food stalls—and their first stop was this place, “Authentic Zhou Family Tofu Roll”!

Wisely visited Okayama Prefecture last year, so he was happy when his Japanese friends came to Taiwan for the marathon and invited him to join. With the excitement of meeting old friends and getting some exercise, he dressed Little D in a prepared Momotaro outfit, and the two joined the full marathon together.

After finishing the race and returning to the finish line, we headed back to Guangfu Market where our scooters were parked, then walked to this Authentic Zhou Family Tofu Roll for a meal. The shop isn’t big, but business is pretty good. It’s run by people from mainland China, so the flavors are very authentic.

Since we were planning to try other stalls too, we kept it simple with soy milk, the signature tofu roll, and a tofu and vegetable bun. Their soy milk comes sweetened or unsweetened, but the taste is just average—though at just NT$10 per cup, it’s pretty cheap.

The tofu and vegetable bun doesn’t really have much meat flavor, but the vermicelli and tofu aroma go well together, and the bun’s soft wrapper is a plus. The small amount of scallions and greens also suit my taste—it’s overall a light-style dish.

But the best thing is still their signature tofu roll. The highlight is the dry-pan-fried wrapper, which is fragrant and chewy, paired with the aroma of vermicelli and greens, plus diced tofu inside. Once you try it, the flavor lingers, and it’s delicious even when cold. This shop is pretty close to the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and the World Trade Center, and it’s a breakfast spot. If you’re in the area, it’s worth trying. Next time I’d also like to try their beef wrap... ^^
