Who says you have to spend a lot of money to go out and enjoy nature? The Beitou area, known as a hot spring destination, features many well-known free cultural attractions, including some internationally renowned sights loved by foreign visitors.

1. Beitou Hot Spring Museum
The Beitou Hot Spring Museum, featuring British-style architecture, was once the largest public hot spring bathhouse in East Asia. It now serves as a historical museum showcasing the history of Beitou’s hot springs and its unique spring water qualities. The second floor is designed with tatami mats and Japanese shoji doors, creating a serene exhibition space. It is occasionally open to the public for floor seating where visitors can gaze at the Beitou scenery from the balcony—this space is especially popular among Japanese tourists.

2. Beitou Park
Beitou Park is right outside Xinbeitou Metro Station. With its lush greenery and refreshing water features, it's a beloved place for both locals and tourists to take a walk. The park is especially popular in the summer when the cool mist from the fountain offers relief from the heat—all completely free.

3. Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch
The Beitou Branch of the Taipei Public Library, often ranked by international media as one of the world’s most beautiful libraries, is Taiwan’s first green architecture library. Surrounded by trees, it feels like a hidden gem within the forest. To create a more spacious feel, all shelves inside are required to be under 110 cm tall, making books easier to access.

4. Meiting
Meiting is a Japanese-style wooden building that once served as the summer villa of the famous calligrapher Yu Youren. Some of his works are displayed here, including the plaques he wrote for “Din Tai Fung” and “Xingtian Temple,” which visitors can admire.

5. Ketagalan Cultural Center
The Ketagalan Cultural Center is Taiwan’s first museum dedicated to indigenous peoples. It displays the culture, history, and arts of the Ketagalan tribe. It was established here because over 400 years ago, Beitou was the territory of the Ketagalan people.

Visitors can learn about the Ketagalan language, culture, and historical development, gaining insight into how the ancestors of this land once lived.
