When I previously shared about 【Apu Li Stinky Tofu】 in Yongkang, Tainan, a friend left a comment on FB saying there’s also a super popular stinky tofu shop in Guiren!!! That day, I was taking my mother-in-law to visit an old friend nearby. While the two ladies were catching up, I snuck out and had to try this legendary Tainan delicacy~

The 【Ah Hong Stinky Tofu】 recommended by netizens may be located near the intersection of two major roads, but its inconspicuous appearance made us circle around twice before finding it. By the time we arrived, the boss was just getting ready to open. Mimi even waited a bit at the entrance, but I’m really glad we got there early—otherwise, who knows how long the line would’ve been?<"

The small sign says it was established in 1997, so it’s been around for about 17 years. You can tell it’s very beloved by the locals. Even before opening, people were already lining up just like Mimi. (Are you a bird??)

This legendary Ah Hong Stinky Tofu, which supposedly only operates for four hours a day, sees a constant stream of customers from the moment it opens. You can vaguely see white boxes filled with tofu—it’s really doing great business!!

A dedicated woman is beautiful, and a dedicated boss is handsome too~ Hard at work frying tofu!!

To handle the steady stream of customers, the boss asks everyone to first confirm their order combo—whether they want garlic or not, spicy or not, sliced or not... Prices seem to have gone up a bit, but the numbers are simple and easy to calculate: 40 (small), 50 (medium), 60 (large).

The dining area inside the metal shack is spacious and clean. Judging by photos from previous visitors, this space seems to have been recently renovated—maybe that’s part of the reason for the price hike~

If you’re dining in, you don’t have to queue—you can just write your order down directly.

Pour yourself two cups of free winter melon tea, find a seat, and wait eagerly for your stinky tofu~

Freshly fried stinky tofu smells intensely pungent yet incredibly fragrant—you’ll want to sneak a bite right away><"这天mimi点的是中size，分量让两个人解解馋刚好~泡菜也是给的很大方。另外她们家的辣椒酱很不错，搭配臭豆腐好好吃。

The texture is super crispy… so crispy it’s almost unbelievable. When you bite into it, you can clearly hear that satisfying crunch in your mouth. Paired with mildly spicy and refreshing pickled vegetables, it’s addictive—you just can’t stop eating!!

The lower parts, soaked in sweet-sour sauce, are also amazing. Slightly softened from the moisture, they lose some crispiness but gain an explosively juicy texture. A seemingly simple plate of stinky tofu actually offers multiple layers of flavor, and it’s not greasy at all. I think this might be one of the reasons this snack is so appealing!!

While enjoying the meal, I watched the growing line of customers. It just goes to show that even with simple, delicious food, as long as you put in the effort, people will definitely notice~ My friend and I were so into the food we forgot we had to go pick up my mother-in-law.
