With the Lunar New Year holiday over and the 228 Peace Memorial Day long weekend approaching, it's still a great time for a spring outing. In this season of blooming flowers, Hualien’s Danongdafu Plain Forest Park has been showcasing a stunning fan-shaped flower sea since the Spring Festival. Not only does it feature vast fields of rapeseed flowers, but also several innovative land art installations. The expansive grounds, set against a backdrop of distant mountains, offer truly picturesque scenery.

This year, Hualien Forest District Office has themed Danongdafu as “Tattoo Flower Sea” and “Landmark Art.” The colorful fan-shaped flower fields cover about 1.5 hectares, featuring a variety of blooms such as crabapple, cockscomb, and marigolds, along with 15 hectares of cosmos flower sea. The land art includes fun spelling walls, green sculptures like “Love TAIWAN,” and a photo frame sculpture area, all perfect for visitors to take memorable photos. The rapeseed flower field spans 3 hectares. Ms. Chen from the Forest District Office mentioned that the flower sea is expected to be plowed under for crop cultivation after the Lantern Festival. Visitors eager to see the vibrant blossoms should plan their visit soon. The landmark art, however, will remain on display in the park.

Covering more than 1,200 hectares, the Danongdafu Plain Forest Park is equipped with orienteering activity devices. Visitors can rent bicycles on-site to experience the “Longest Forest Cycling Trail in Taiwan.” You may bring your own bicycle or rent one there. Hualien Forest District Office states that the northern loop trail is approximately 11,561 meters long; cycling at 10 km/h would take about 70 minutes to complete. The southern loop trail is about 6,500 meters, taking roughly 40 minutes to ride through.
