Japan’s UNIQLO Joins the Tax-Free Wave: List of 35 Duty-Free Stores

Following in the footsteps of 7-Eleven, Japan’s UNIQLO has also expanded its tax refund offerings. The UNIQLO official announced recently that 31 of its stores will now provide tax-free services for foreign visitors. As long as you stay in Japan for no more than six months and spend over 10,000 yen, you can get a refund by simply showing your passport. Adding to the original four stores, the total number of tax-refund eligible UNIQLO stores is now 35.

To boost tourism, Japan expanded its tax refund policy last October to include beverages, food, and cosmetics. Now, purchases of 5,000 yen or more (but not exceeding 500,000 yen) at a single store qualify for a refund. Many Taiwanese tourists have taken full advantage of this when shopping for cosmetics during their trips to Japan. With UNIQLO now joining the tax-free bandwagon, many independent travelers to Japan will likely add UNIQLO duty-free stores to their must-visit lists.
