High-altitude aroma of beans: Cathay Pacific partners with illy to offer freshly ground coffee on board

Cathay Pacific announced a collaboration with Italian coffee brand illy to serve premium coffee to first and business class passengers on all flights. Freshly ground illy coffee is now available on Cathay Pacific flights, and starting in March, illy espresso, latte, and cappuccino will also be introduced successively.

Cathay Pacific stated that after multiple tests, they hope passengers can still enjoy a multi-sensory coffee experience even at high altitudes where taste and smell sensitivity are reduced. The medium and dark roasted illy coffee beans have a darker, shinier color and a richer consistency, allowing their aroma and flavor to perform optimally on board, ensuring passengers can savor coffee as rich and fragrant as on the ground.

In addition to selecting the right coffee, Cathay Pacific said it has also worked with illy to develop coffee filter bags specifically designed for use in aircraft coffee machines, ensuring the materials and size of the bags achieve the best results during brewing. Furthermore, the water temperature and brewing time have been carefully studied and adjusted to perfectly present the aromatic coffee to passengers.
