"Angel's Tear" Lake - Jioming Lake Reopens in April with a Daily Limit of 176 Visitors

Jioming Lake National Trail, famed as the "Angel's Tear," will reopen in April following over three months of closure and repairs. The Taitung Forest District Office stated that a daily visitor limit will be enforced upon reopening, and new cabin pricing policies will also take effect.

With the increasing number of visitors to Jioming Lake, coupled with erosion and exposure on multiple trail sections, as well as partial damage to cabin facilities, the Taitung Forest District Office temporarily closed the trail on December 10, 2014, to improve and upgrade the cabins and trail conditions. After more than three months of renovation, the trail will reopen on April 1.

The Taitung Forest District Office noted that new regulations will be introduced alongside the reopening. The trail will implement a daily visitor limit of 176 people. Additionally, cabin fees will be set at NT$300 per person on weekdays and NT$400 per person on weekends and holidays. For cabin stays from April 1 onward, online reservations will open at noon on April 10, with a lottery for beds from April 1 to April 9 taking place at 3:00 PM on the same day. Hikers can apply via the Taiwan Forest Recreation website.

The Taitung Forest District Office also reminds the public that entry to Jioming Lake National Trail requires a valid mountain entry permit, an approved cabin reservation list, and a photo ID for on-site verification by rangers. Hikers should plan and prepare adequately before the trip and adhere to the "Leave No Trace" principles during the activity to help preserve mountain resources and ensure the sustainable development of the Jioming Lake trail and its ecosystem.
