Calla lilies in the fields await your picking — Yangmingshan’s “Zhuzihu Calla Lily Season” kicks off on the 20th

The ongoing Yangmingshan Flower Festival, expected to wrap up on the 15th, will be followed by the “Zhuzihu Calla Lily Season” starting on the 20th. Visitors can not only venture into the calla lily fields to pick their own blooms but also stroll along nearby trails to enjoy the lake and mountain scenery of Yangmingshan.

The Beitou District Farmers’ Association stated that Yangmingshan calla lilies have begun to bloom gradually. Although the “Zhuzihu Calla Lily Season” runs only from the 20th to April 26th, the blooming period extends until late May. During the calla lily season, free guided tours are arranged at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. every weekend to help visitors learn about the growing environment of calla lilies.

Unlike cherry blossom viewing, where fallen petals mean waiting another year, calla lilies regrow in about two weeks after being picked. Coupled with the vast planting area on the mountain and a rotation harvesting system, visitors don’t need to worry about not finding calla lilies to pick.

However, local farmers also advise picking calla lilies with a clear target in mind—don’t pick them and then discard them if unsatisfied. Let each calla lily find an admirer, and don’t waste the hard work of the farmers.
