Kaohsiung's Dollar BBQ Spot – Oversized "Grilled King Prawns You Can't Hold in One Hand"

What to eat when visiting Kaohsiung?! Let the fun travel vlogger tell you!!! I personally love checking out night markets – Ruifeng and Kaixuan are both great choices, (For must-eats at Ruifeng Night Market, click here)
But if you don’t want to walk till your legs hurt and just want to find a place to sit down, enjoy a drink or two, and pair it with some grilled bar food, then the travel vlogger highly recommends Carbon Village BBQ, located right next to Central Park Station (City Light Gallery). A must-order here is their grilled king prawns – they’re way bigger than my iPhone 6!!

Sorry, folks!! My iPhone 6 seems to have a bit of an oily screen, haha~ how embarrassing!! Anyway, it’s just for comparison~ so bear with me and check out this other shot of the prawns from a different angle~ the texture is super Q and bouncy!! My favorite!!

Carbon Village was actually originally the BBQ Home from Liuhe Night Market. Now it’s relocated to a busy main road in the city center, making a comeback with the same great cooking skills, plus many newly developed menu items~ The prices aren’t very high (compared to Taipei) – each skewer is only a few dozen NT dollars!!

One of my personal favorites is the grilled fried tofu – first deep-fried, then grilled, with a crispy outside yet super juicy inside!! I absolutely love it~

Grilled scallops, fish sausage, and wagyu-style pork belly are also crowd favorites~ Most grilled scallops you get elsewhere are dry and tiny, but Carbon Village’s are anything but – they’re super juicy!!

Aside from the king prawns, what amazed me most tonight was this bowl of cold udon noodles!!! Want to know just how appetizing and addictive it is? You’ll have to try it yourself to believe it. I think it tastes even better than the ones I’ve had in Japan – the sauce has a subtly sweet flavor, what we call the “Taiwanese taste”! I ended up eating two bowls without realizing it that day.

The edamame here at Carbon Village is also marinated to perfection, super flavorful – a great palate opener~ Pair it with beer, and it’s absolutely amazing!! Even Ruifeng Night Market’s big sister Minjie, Port City Radio’s top host Sulan, the producer of Foodie Paradise, and your friendly neighborhood travel vlogger Kuo Jen-Rong (that’s me!) are all fans of Carbon Village!!
