Can’t sleep at night? Other than humming your mood into a song, what else can you do? The upcoming “New Taipei City Library New Main Branch” will offer citizens 24-hour reading services starting in May, letting people enjoy a book-filled night life.

The architecture of the New Taipei City Library New Main Branch blends tradition with digital elements. With 10 floors above ground and 3 below, its design resembles stacked books. It is not only a “green energy library” that breathes life but also Taiwan’s first library to provide 24-hour service. The New Taipei City Library states that the facility houses up to 1,100 types of periodicals and magazines, an anime and music corridor, as well as self-study spaces, aiming to meet the needs of different readers. It offers a quiet and comfortable reading spot for night owls, service industry workers, and students even late at night.

In addition, the new main branch caters to the reading needs of different age groups. For example, the second floor is designed with tables and chairs suitable for elderly readers, and also provides assistive devices such as reading lamps, magnifiers, color video magnifiers, as well as simple blood pressure monitoring equipment. The periodical reading area offers 1,100 types of periodicals and magazines, the largest collection among all public libraries in the country. The 24-hour self-study room, open to students, is equipped with seat management and access control systems. Readers can check in and out using their library cards, while also being able to monitor seat availability in real time.
