March 21st is World Sleep Day. A well-known hotel booking website conducted a survey across 25 countries worldwide, exploring the sleep habits and bedtime behaviors of over 25,000 travelers. It found that the French love sleeping naked, while Taiwanese prefer to sleep in their street clothes. Additionally, nearly half of travelers globally said they’ve had sex in a hotel bed with a partner, and 34% of Taiwanese have done so.
The results also revealed that some nationalities embrace “naturalism” by choosing to sleep naked, with French travelers ranking first at over 50%, far ahead of the second-placed British and Norwegian travelers, both at 24%. In contrast, only about one in ten Taiwanese travelers typically sleeps naked. Meanwhile, around 11% of global travelers go to bed wearing their regular street clothes. Surprisingly, this habit is also common among travelers from Hong Kong and Taiwan, with 47% of Hong Kongers and 45% of Taiwanese doing the same.
So what do travelers do before going to bed? Nearly half of global travelers (around 48%) said they’ve enjoyed intimate moments with a partner in a hotel bed. For passionate Spanish travelers, hotel rooms are among the most seductive places, with as many as 70% of respondents admitting to having had sex in a hotel bed—the highest rate globally.
Taiwanese travelers are also quite fond of hotel rooms, with over a third of respondents (34%) saying they’ve had sex with a partner in a hotel room. Furthermore, as many as 84% of Taiwanese travelers said their favorite thing to do after returning to a hotel is to lounge in bed watching TV or movies to unwind, followed by surfing the internet in bed (46%).
