Teddy Bear and Rabbit run through the rice fields — The Pingtung International Colored Rice Art Festival kicks off on the 28th

This year, Pingtung County Government held the "First Pingtung International Colored Rice Art Festival" in collaboration with LINE, planting popular LINE FRIENDS cartoon characters such as Brown, Cony, James, and Sally across a vast field of one hectare. Starting March 28th, these beloved characters can be seen in the rice paddies of Pingtung!

Using four varieties of rice — purple, white, gold, and green — the Pingtung County Government created the adorable images of LINE FRIENDS in the most natural way. The designs were crafted by LINE’s headquarters design team. LINE shared that when the design team visited Pingtung, they were deeply impressed by the sunlight and rural charm of southern Taiwan. As a result, their vision was of a gentle breeze sweeping through the rice fields, creating waves of golden grain — as if the LINE FRIENDS characters had leapt from mobile screens to joyfully run across the Pingtung plains.

The LINE design team had very high standards for the visuals. Not only did they have to conceptualize how a 3D image would appear, but they also had to consider factors such as the growth rate of different rice varieties. The team even climbed onto a 9-meter viewing platform to collaborate with skilled farmers in adjusting the field designs, ensuring that visitors could enjoy the most flawless image when looking out from the observation deck!

In addition to the LINE FRIENDS-themed colored rice field, the event site also features limited-time LINE red bean pastries in three flavors. Each pastry’s crust is printed with a LINE character to indicate its flavor: Brown (red bean), Moon (cream), and Sally (purple sweet potato). Proceeds from the sales of these pastries, after deducting costs, will go into a community care fund to provide meals for disadvantaged families, elders, and children in need, spreading love further.
