“Fireworks floating and bursting on water” – The Penghu Fireworks Festival kicks off on April 20

The annual Penghu Fireworks Festival is coming back with a bang. The Penghu County Government held a press conference in Taipei today (31st), announcing that this year’s festival will debut under the theme “Happy Island of Chrysanthemums, Shining Across the World” on April 20, and will feature, for the first time ever, “fireworks that float and burst on water,” accompanied by laser light shows to create a brand-new experience.

Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu said in his speech that the fireworks for this year’s Penghu Fireworks Festival are provided by the same company responsible for Taiwan’s National Day fireworks. In addition to collaborating once again with last year’s design team from China, this year they have also invited teams from the Czech Republic, Israel, Thailand, and the Philippines to take part in the production. For the fireworks effects, the opening ceremony will feature a full-circle high-altitude

This year’s Penghu Fireworks Festival will run from April 20 to June 25. Chen Kuang-fu further stated that last year’s festival attracted over 300,000 visitors, generating a tourism revenue of NT$2 billion, and he is quite optimistic about this year’s attendance exceeding 500,000.
