The fields are the fridge, and the farmland can be your kitchen too. On the 11th, the New Taipei City Agriculture Bureau held the Field Kitchen – Green Field Tour “Green Onion” Rural Culture Experience in Pingxi District, allowing visitors to harvest crops directly from the fields and then cook them simply on the spot, enjoying the freshest and most natural food and fun.

The New Taipei City Agriculture Bureau stated that to promote the specialty product of “green onions,” on April 11 and 25, they will hold the Field Kitchen – Green Field Tour “Green Onion” Rural Culture Experience in Pingxi. On April 18, an eco-friendly health walk up Xiaozishan Mountain will also take place. In collaboration with 37 restaurants across eight districts—Pingxi, Shuangxi, Gongliao, Ruifang, Wulai, Xindian, Shenkeng, and Shiding—the bureau has jointly launched special dishes featuring green onions, hoping to attract tourists to visit New Taipei City and savor the taste of green onions.

Mr. Tsai Chien-huang, a young farmer from Pingxi, mentioned that Pingxi is no longer just known for releasing sky lanterns; green onions are also a local highlight. The New Taipei City Agriculture Bureau’s promotion of green onions can help boost the development of Pingxi’s tourist spots, connecting Pingxi Old Street, Pingxi Sky Lanterns, Pingxi Train Station, Lingjiao Train Station, green onion farms, and more into a one-stop tourist route. This can also support more small-scale farmers, and he is willing to help other onion growers improve the quality of their produce. He hopes this will attract more young people with ambition to return to their hometowns to farm.
