Following the painted rice fields, another “hay maze” has appeared in southern Taiwan！In the area around Grandma’s Painted Wall in Hucuoliao, Shanhua, Tainan, a hay maze will be exhibited for two months starting April 21. Visitors can wander through hay as tall as two meters to find the center of the maze — the skeleton of a giant mammoth, symbolizing the hidden beauty and natural treasures of Tainan.

The “Hay Maze” initiated by Grandma’s Painted Wall in Hucuoliao, Shanhua, Tainan, starts next to the recently completed “Glory Era Wall.” The 40-meter-long and 20-meter-wide hay field, after design and planning, has become a natural maze suitable for both adults and children. The initiator of the hay maze activity, Li Fan-i, explained that the goal was to present a complete form of the treasure that Mr. Ba Zhi had been searching for in Tainan.
“Mammoth skeletons unearthed globally are extremely precious, but Tainan has one that has been preserved.” Li Fan-i said that Mr. Qi had a strong passion for science and had wanted to collaborate with Tainan, hoping to create a new form of display and to allow more people to understand the fun content of paleontology. He felt that there were also beautiful natural resources worth showcasing here, so he spoke with the organizers of the Glory Era Wall and proposed creating a maze and preserving the grassland in Tainan, allowing more visitors to see it.
Originally, the activity did not receive support, but after communication, the landowner Uncle Jinsheng and the chicken-raising grandma agreed to lend the grassland — originally reserved for deer feed — unconditionally, and even personally harvested the hay. Li Fan-i, along with his family and friends, created the “Hay Maze” in Tainan. They hope visitors can enjoy not only the fun of exploring the maze but also discover the precious grassland treasures hidden within, which may inspire more interest. There are also fossil displays in the maze, allowing visitors to have a preliminary understanding. Those interested can further explore in depth！
