Have you gone firefly watching this summer? The "green sprites" of Liyu Pond in Hualien dance beautifully

Spring and summer are the seasons when fireflies take flight. During this time, the entire island of Taiwan is filled with the melodies of these "fireflies," as if green sprites are hopping across forest lawns. While most people think of firefly-watching spots in western Taiwan, eastern travel expert Wu Dongjun says:"Liyu Pond in Hualien and Likia Forest Road are also highly recommended."

Wu Dongjun explains that Liyu Pond has an asphalt-paved path around the lake, making nighttime strolls not only convenient in terms of transportation but also free from crowds, with a comfortable walking experience. Additionally, due to Liyu Pond’s humid environment, which is ideal for firefly habitation, a certain number of fireflies can be observed here every season. The National Scenic Area Administration of the Huatung Valley also offers guided tours during this period. He also recommends Taiping Farm in Likia Forest Road, located in Beinan Township, Taitung County. At this farm, visitors can enjoy firefly viewing, and the farm owner provides ecological explanations, making it suitable for family outings.

Taiping FarmManager Xu Ruiming states that while popular firefly-watching areas in western Taiwan usually feature large numbers of a single species, his farm emphasizes ecological education. The fireflies here are notable for their "variety of species" rather than sheer numbers, making it more appealing to travelers interested in learning about different types of fireflies.
