Severe drought alert: All water parks in Taiwan delay opening by 2–4 weeks to conserve water

Travelers planning water park trips take note: Amid Taiwan’s current severe drought, tourism operators across the island have postponed water park openings by 2 weeks to 1 month as a collective effort to conserve water. Visitors planning to visit any of these parks are advised to check the latest updates before their trip.

In previous years, major theme parks typically began operating their water parks around early May. This year, to support water conservation efforts, Leofoo Village Theme Park has postponed the opening of its water park by 2 weeks to June 13. The original May-end opening of the water park at Janfusun Fancyworld has also been pushed back to late June. Janfusun Fancyworld had originally planned to open its water park on May 1 but has adjusted the date to May 29 in line with the water-saving strategy.

The Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications stated that in response to Taiwan’s water shortages, besides coordinating with operators to delay water park openings, it is also urging them to reduce water usage. Current water-saving measures implemented by tourism operators include installing water-efficient devices such as sensor-operated toilets and urinals with adjusted flushing times; equipping washbasins with flow-restrictor faucet heads; switching air conditioning and ice-making machines from water-cooled to air-cooled systems; using spray-type showerheads in locker rooms and washrooms; recycling water for irrigation and cleaning purposes; stepping up inspections for leaks in water equipment and pipelines; promoting water conservation and providing additional training to staff on saving water.
