Japan’s “Thomas the Tank Engine” to start running in June; themed locomotive unveiled early

Japan’s only real-life “Thomas the Tank Engine” will once again traverse the natural pastoral landscapes of Shizuoka starting this June. The operating company, Oigawa Railway, has started exhibiting the “Thomas’s Friend”-themed locomotive at Senzu Station, making it a new photo attraction in the area.

In addition to the “Hiro” locomotive, which has been on display at Senzu Station since last year, this year also sees the addition of Thomas’s friend “Pecos.” The two locomotives are jointly exhibited at Thomas Square in Senzu Station.

Thomas the Tank Engine will begin running from June 7 to October this year. Oigawa Railway announced that besides Thomas, another of his friends—James—is also expected to join the line-up this year. The red James train and the blue Thomas train will become one of the most eye-catching sights in Shizuoka Prefecture after June.
