Last updated 2026-09-24 — The headlights of bustling traffic slice through the quiet night. Late-night eateries in Kaohsiung are few and far between, so shops that stay open past eight or nine in the evening really stand out. Ou Xiong Xiaopu is located right across from the Rose Church, near Kaohsiung Municipal Girls' Senior High School. With such a cute name, no one would expect it to be run by a sincere and old-fashioned Hakka guy. Though it’s been open for less than a year, it’s already very popular among the nearby students of Kaohsiung Municipal Girls' Senior High School.

The headlights of bustling traffic slice through the quiet night.

The owner serves grilled toast—also known as the trendy pressed toast. Just last year, several similar shops popped up, which shows just how competitive this space is. What really drew us in was the owner’s dedication to using quality ingredients. Despite running a small-scale business, he refuses to cut corners, and that alone makes it worth a visit.

In the limited space, aside from accommodating kitchen machines and the griddle, the rest is reserved for customer seating. Two big guys bustling around a tiny griddle to handle every customer’s order is no easy feat—if your food takes a little longer, please bear with them.

Order at the counter: pick up a menu, choose a seat, and be sure to try their signature grilled toast. Check the box and head to the counter to place your order.

Basil Omelette 40 TWD
Although not handmade, the omelette skin is still golden and appetizing. Packed with generous fillings, it made my husband eager to take a bite right away.

The aroma of basil is simply enchanting, and the soft omelette skin is nicely browned—no less tasty than those from artisanal omelette shops. It’s genuinely delicious.

Pan-Fried Bacon & Egg 50 TWD

Who knew their burgers could be this tasty—it’s surprisingly good. The fried egg is thick, showing much more sincerity than your average fast-food burger.

Pan-Fried Tender Chicken 60 TWD
The toast used here comes from a pesticide-free rice-duck farm bakery, with each slice a solid 1.8 cm thick. The bread has a fine texture and a hearty chew. Originally filled with salad and lettuce, it’s now updated with butter and broccoli—a creative twist that balances flavor and innovation.

Special Sauce Braised Pork 60 TWD
The braised pork is sourced from Liutai, a well-known brunch spot in Pingtung. The meat is thick and full of flavor, making it perfect for a sandwich. With two slices of braised pork and a thick fried egg, every bite is incredibly satisfying.

Garlic Braised Pork 65 TWD
Taught by a master chef from Qishan, the Hakka-style braised pork is shredded and stuffed into the toast—an innovative fusion of East and West. The flavors blend surprisingly well. Packed with lean Hakka braised pork and layered with garlic-infused cheese, the taste is so rich you’ll wonder how something this indulgent can be so good.

Fish Cake Slices 30 TWD
While not their main offering, the fish cake slices come highly recommended by the owner. After trying them, we totally understand why. These are handmade, and the fried fish paste has an intense, savory aroma. In our experience, we’ve never had fish paste this rich before. Plus, they’re crispy without being greasy—like a delicious snack.

Cocoa Oolong Latte 50 TWD (left), Ou Xiong Milk Tea 30 TWD (right)
While the drinks may be slightly pricier, they’re worth it for the generous portions and quality ingredients. The cocoa drink has a rich but balanced sweetness, and it’s quite good. The other is the shop’s signature milk tea, which has a subtle hint of alcohol and a uniquely rich flavor.

The owner doesn’t cut corners despite running a small business—in fact, they invest more in sourcing premium ingredients to serve customers the most delicious and hearty meals. That’s the responsibility and attitude any business owner should have, and we truly admire that. We give high praise to the garlic braised pork—the owner’s creativity shines in blending traditional braised pork with the trendy grilled toast. It’s a fusion of East-meets-West, taking braised pork beyond the dinner table. You can really taste the care put into it, and we highly recommend giving it a try.
