Miaoli peaches and plums enter harvest season – perfect for family fruit-picking trips to Sanyi and Dahua

Miaoli’s peaches and plums began entering their harvest season in May. With around 1,800 hectares of orchards in Dahua, Sanyi, Tai’an, and Tongluo, the trees are now laden with fruit, including honey peaches, sweet peaches, crisp peaches, jade plums, and red-fleshed plums that are gradually hitting the market. The harvesting season continues through the end of June. Key production areas Dahua and Sanyi, along with the Jiangmaya and Shuangtan leisure agriculture zones on Provincial Highway 130, are gearing up to welcome visitors. With peach blossoms red and plums ripe, the fragrance of fruit fills the air. In addition to sightseeing and fruit picking, many businesses have introduced special dishes paired with the region’s warm and delightful local hospitality—making for a fun and delicious peach and plum-picking trip, ideal for a family day out.

Miaoli County’s peaches and plums are mainly grown in the Dahua and Sanyi areas, especially along Provincial Highway 130, which is the most concentrated production zone in the county. The environment here is quite unique—due to the terrain, persistent fog and distinct climate changes result in especially sweet and abundant fruit. The harvest season is expected to run from early May through the end of June, providing a full two months for the public to enjoy a variety of peach and plum flavors. Entry fees for fruit picking are about NT$100 per jin (600g) for honey peaches, while other varieties range from NT$40 to NT$60 per jin depending on the type.

Xu Manxian, Director of Miaoli County Government’s Agriculture Department, said that due to stable weather during the Lunar New Year period, this year’s fruit-setting rate on Provincial Highway 130 was exceptionally high, resulting in a yield more than 30% above previous years. Currently, the farmers’ association is promoting grading and packaging efforts to ensure a refined welcome and leave a better impression on visitors.

Xu Manxian added that when visiting Miaoli’s Dahua and Sanyi for the peach and plum season, it’s also worth exploring the Jiangmaya and Shuangtan leisure agriculture zones. Shuangtan offers hands-on DIY activities such as wooden duck painting, face mask painting, indigo dyeing, and cooking with dye plants—as well as unique local cuisine. Jiangmaya features DIY gingerbread making and ginger milk tea, plus local restaurants and farms offer peach and plum special meals, as well as regional specialties like ginger-based gifts and bitter tea oil products, all well worth sampling.
