Far East Hotel Successfully Challenges World’s Longest Swiss Roll – Reaching 268.69 Meters

Led by Chef Pascal Poirot of Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel Taipei, a team of pastry chefs along with nearly 31 baking students from Kaiping Culinary School successfully broke the Guinness World Record for the longest Swiss roll on May 7th. Originally planning to make a 220-meter roll, the team was astonished when it measured 268.69 meters — over 40 meters longer than expected. It also surpassed Japan’s 2014 record of 140.62 meters, setting a new Guinness World Record.

The 268.69-meter Swiss roll was certified as the new record under the witness of Guinness World Records adjudicator John Garland. An auction-style sale followed, with all 900 boxes of raspberry taro pineapple Swiss rolls sold out (including 800 boxes purchased by corporations and 100 boxes bought by on-site attendees), marking a perfect ending to the event.

The world’s longest Swiss roll used approximately 186 kilograms of taro cream and raspberry jam, 164 kilograms of pineapple, 20 kilograms of chocolate, nearly 100 kilograms of eggs (around 2,000 eggs), 50 kilograms of sugar, and 95 kilograms of flour.
