Miaoli’s mountainous cityscape boasts beautiful mountain views and fresh air, making it a top weekend getaway destination for many people from northern Taiwan. Popular check-in spots include the Tongxiao Shrine and the Totoro Tunnel. Venturing deeper into the mountains, you’ll find landscape cafes and homestays surrounded by greenery. This year, Miaoli has added five new attractions — perfect for a holiday trip out of town.

1. 《Yunshui Resort Forest》

A super romantic forest hideaway that gives the illusion of being in Europe, it’s a comprehensive resort combining hot springs, lodging, and dining. You can enjoy lunch or afternoon tea here, or warm up in the hot spring rooms, foot soaking pavilions, or outdoor public pools. Towering bald cypress trees line the circular lake, and there are also macaron-style cottages. The beautiful scenery has earned it the nickname “mini version of Yunshan Water.” It is currently in its trial operation phase.

2. 《Miaoli 7-11 Longyue Branch (Colorful Container Store)》

When it comes to the latest check-in spots, the rainbow container 7-11 is a must. Near the Houlong Interchange, there’s a new eye-catching spot — a vibrant container store that’s surprisingly a convenience store. Its striking appearance has drawn visitors to stop specifically for photos.

Suweila Manor has long been a popular check-in destination in Miaoli. This dreamy hidden gem nestled in the mountains is incredibly relaxing. In addition to enjoying great food and scenic views, the park now features an extra-long slide, instantly becoming a new highlight. The 75-meter-long forest slide has two tracks — pink and blue — guaranteed to send laughter chasing all your worries away.

Fans of castles absolutely must not miss "Strolling in the Clouds Forest. Kitchen" in Sanyi. The red-brick red castle stands out even more against the lush greenery around it, and its location in a mountain town often shrouded in clouds adds to the romance. Inside the castle, there are many romantic little touches, such as a Juliet balcony and a double-bird iron sculpture, making it so photogenic you won’t want to leave.

5. "Tongyou Shijie"

If you’re not ready to head home after a full day of sightseeing, go to "Tongyou Shijie" on the mountainside to enjoy the night view. With a 360-degree panoramic view, you can overlook the endless million-dollar night scenery. The park also features several romantic landscapes perfect for couples, and the pure white piano is also a popular photo spot. From sunset to starry night skies, it’s incredibly romantic.
