Treat yourself to a sweet afternoon tea after visiting the palace—a Belgian waffle topped with strawberries!

Walking through the alleys near Deoksugung Palace, you’ll definitely be drawn in by the crowd if you happen to pass by—just like I was~ It’s very close to Jeongdong-gil, so you can easily include it in your nearby itinerary. You can also visit Deoksugung Palace itself—the ticket is only 1,000 KRW. There are cherry blossoms inside too.

I originally thought only the people in front of the store were queuing, but it turns out the line goes all the way into the alley. This crowd is no joke, and since the waffles are made one by one, you really have to wait about half an hour.

I looked this place up and found out it’s a chain with quite a few branches, but the TV show featured this specific one. There used to be one in Hongdae too, but I checked the street view from March 2015 and the sign was already gone—so the Hongdae branch is probably gone. If you’re in the area, come here instead. Also, one of the staff members is really funny—I felt like he had the vibe of that Japanese comedian from “Golden Kamuy.”

The strawberry season has already passed, but now Korea grows strawberries in greenhouses, so you can enjoy them year-round. Even though it’s past their peak season, the ones I bought this time actually tasted pretty good (lucky me—they’re usually not great).

There’s a “best” section you can refer to—it has English, so ordering should be easy~

The drinks seem to be pretty popular too—almost everyone orders juice.

After I placed my order, I waited another ten minutes, just watching the endless line of people (speechless).

Finally, I got my strawberry cream cheese waffle—but I have to say, it’s actually a strawberry whipped cream Belgian waffle. There’s no cream cheese in it. If you’re a big fan of strong, rich cheese flavors, you should go for the cream cheese version!

One serving is 3,800 KRW—not a bad price for afternoon tea!

The person who made my Belgian waffle was a cute guy (with slightly curly bangs like Wataru from “Sally the Witch”), haha, which suddenly put me in a great mood~

To be honest, I’m not that into Korean waffles anymore—the big, thick kind (I’m already tired of BEANS BINS). But I still love Belgian waffles because they’re not too big (so you don’t end up overly full), and they’re slightly sweet and crispy, which suits my taste!

To be honest, this Belgian waffle is really delicious—even on its own. No wonder their bestseller #1 is actually the simplest and cheapest flavor—it’s kind of like Taiwan’s pearl candy flavor, with a slightly crispy texture and a touch of sugar, but inside it’s soft, fragrant, and chewy. So good. I ate it happily the whole way. As for the strawberries and whipped cream, I got lucky today—the strawberries were pretty tasty, both sweet and fragrant, and the whipped cream was lightly sweet without being cloying. Also quite good. I recommend that if you’re in the area, you should try this popular afternoon tea too!
