Travel Center / Comprehensive Report
Yilan’s first art museum opened with a grand celebration on the 17th, inviting the public to visit free of charge on the 17th and 18th. In addition to fixing original architectural flaws, the new Yilan Art Museum has also lowered the facilities in accessible restrooms to better serve people with disabilities. The surrounding bamboo grove has also been renovated, giving the museum a refreshed look as it welcomes visitors.
The Yilan County Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that the Yilan Art Museum is a renovation of the former Taiwan Bank branch. Established in 1899, the old branch was damaged during wartime and was later rebuilt in 1949 as a three-story Western-style building. With its simple yet classic exterior, the structure holds significant historical and cultural value and was designated as one of the county’s historic buildings in 2002. After being handed over to the county government in 2012, more than NT$68 million was invested in its renovation.

Ms. Shen from the museum’s service desk said: “Since the Yilan Art Museum is located in downtown Yilan, transportation is quite convenient. However, as the museum is housed in a renovated historic building, there is no parking lot available. We recommend visitors park at the nearby Crescent Department Store and walk to the museum. For those arriving by train, it’s also convenient to walk along Guangfu Road and Zhongshan Road to reach the museum.”
