Protecting Beautiful Oceans: 6,000 kg of Trash Cleared in Jibei Island Beach Cleanup

With summer approaching, beach activities are becoming increasingly popular. Jibei Island in Penghu is a key scenic destination in the North Sea tourism area, and as the annual tourist season begins, it becomes one of the must-visit spots for tourists coming to Penghu for sightseeing and marine recreational activities. While this brings a wave of tourism, it also generates a lot of trash. On the morning of May 17, the Penghu Baisha Office, Coast Guard 72nd Brigade, Jibei community, and military police jointly participated in a beach cleanup on the island. The group carried out environmental restoration and beach cleaning along the shoreline behind Jibei and along the coastal road, removing a total of 6,000 kg of trash, allowing the coastal highway and beach to regain their beautiful appearance.

In just one morning, the joint Jibei Island beach cleanup removed 2,500 kg of general waste, 1,500 kg of recyclables, and 2,000 kg of driftwood, totaling 6,000 kg—an astonishing amount and a fruitful outcome. Ahead of the tourist season, in addition to beaches in Taiwan, similar cleanup events have been held at beaches around the world, aiming to encourage the public to enjoy beach scenery while protecting the beautiful oceans and avoiding littering.
