The Gundam Factory Yokohama was originally scheduled to open this October. Although the operators announced a delay due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, testing is being carried out intensively. Recently, netizens captured some footage from outside the site, showing that this Gundam appears to have quite high mobility and a variety of movements, which has generated a lot of excitement.

Multiple takes were conducted, each slightly adjusting the camera angle, and edited into one sequence (the previous tweet is also at 6x speed) #GFY https://t.co/pBlj4hSWcW pic.twitter.com/FOTxHgkLCG

▲ The video has been sped up 6x, the actual movements are much slower.

Footage taken by Japanese netizens shows that the massive Gundam can perform actions such as walking, kneeling, raising its hand, and turning its head. Its body also makes subtle movements in coordination, and even its hands can perform gestures — definitely not a rigid, prop-like robot.

Can it stand up??

Reminds me of the Cup Noodles commercial from 11 years ago!!

Built to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mobile Suit Gundam anime, the Gundam Factory Yokohama is located at Yamashita Port in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. The star attraction is the 1:1 scale, 18-meter tall, 25-ton RX-78F00 Gundam, constructed with a steel frame (inner structure) and resin outer shell, and remotely operated from the outside. Once the "Gundam Factory" opens, visitors will be able to get an up-close view of the Gundam from observation decks in the Gundam Dock "warehouse" area, learn about the Gundam’s construction in the Gundam Lab, shop for souvenirs at the Gundam Base, or enjoy coffee at the themed Gundam Café. However, although the operators plan to open the "Gundam Factory" within this year, the exact date has yet to be finalized.
