Although the late-May Tung Blossom Festival is nearing its end, the dazzlingly golden Golden Shower Trees will soon begin to bloom, adding a splash of vibrant color to early summer. The "Golden Town" in Miaoli is about to experience a "golden rain" of golden-yellow blossoms — a unique romantic spectacle that visitors won’t want to miss, as it can only be seen in June.

Commonly known as the "golden rain," the Golden Shower Tree is scientifically named *Cassia fistula*. From late May to June, it bursts into clusters of bright yellow flowers. When the breeze blows, the petals sway as if golden sparks are flying through the air — a truly beautiful sight. Along Taiwan Provincial Highway 6 in Gongguan Township, Miaoli County, rows of Golden Shower Trees have been planted, prompting locals to name this leisure agriculture area "Golden Town."

Aside from the Golden Shower Trees that bring “golden rain,” Golden Town is also the only region in Taiwan that produces jujubes. Jujubes contain 80–90 times more vitamin C than apples, making them extremely nutritious. As a result, local residents have developed many jujube-inspired dishes and souvenirs, including jujube chicken soup, jujube steamed buns, jujube sausages, jujube popsicles, and jujube preserves. These healthy and wholesome treats are all popular jujube-based foods and products.

Visiting Golden Town isn’t just about admiring flowers and tasting delicious food — there are also plenty of fun DIY activities not to be missed, such as Lei Cha (pounded tea), straw weaving, pottery sculpting, stone painting, and traditional toy-making. These hands-on experiences offer unique forms of enjoyment. Nature lovers can choose to explore the rural roads between the fields by bicycle, enjoying the breeze and tranquil countryside scenery. When tired from cycling, visitors can sit and watch the fish, shrimp, and clams in the clean, cool irrigation ditches by the farmland.

To coincide with the upcoming golden rain season, Golden Town offers bike rentals and free guided tours for visitors. Through introductions by local guides, in addition to flower viewing and sampling delicious food, visitors can also learn about the town’s culture and ecology.
