As the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus, Wuhan pneumonia) outbreak intensifies, not only have the numbers of people going out and traveling decreased, but foot traffic to department stores has also dropped. Many citizens are choosing to stay at home more voluntarily, which has severely impacted mall consumer traffic. Xinyi District has been hit especially hard due to the lack of tourists, and Taipei 101 has taken the lead in announcing that it will shorten its business hours starting April 6 after the Qingming holiday.

Business hours will be shortened to 12:00–21:00. The supermarket in the underground food court will remain open from 9:00, while food stalls and restaurants will start serving meals earlier than 12:00 depending on customer demand.

To reduce operational risks for each brand and retail counter, Taipei 101 has also implemented a rotational shift work system.
