The newly announced Top 10 Scenic Small Towns and Top 3 Featured Small Towns in March will jointly occupy Taipei 101 from now until September 2. Cultural relics and creative cultural products from each town will be displayed on the 89th-floor observatory. The Kinmen Jincheng exhibition area will even feature a wind lion god statue and three artillery shells transported from Kinmen to showcase the town’s war history and traditional folk beliefs. The Kaohsiung Meinong exhibition area will present the aesthetics of Hakka culture through its iconic oil-paper umbrellas. During the event period, residents of the 12 counties and cities where the scenic small towns are located can enjoy a discounted ticket price of NT$400 per person at the observatory upon presenting valid personal identification, or take advantage of a “Buy 3, Get 1 Free” deal for groups of four.

During the exhibition period, “Scenic Small Town Star Days” will also be arranged, with each of the 13 towns taking turns to host local-themed activities on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the event. This coming Saturday and Sunday will kick off with Taichung Dajia and Taipei Beitou. The Taichung Dajia event will feature a ceremonial horn team experience, allowing visitors to take photos and interact with statues of Mazu, Qianliyan, and Shunfeng’er. Taipei Beitou will present live performances by Nangkasit musicians, representatives of the teahouse culture, as well as offer a yukata wearing experience that symbolizes Beitou’s hot spring heritage. Following that, from August 4–5, Sanyi will showcase its expertise in wood carving through a painting experience featuring wooden ducks and swans. Ruisui will introduce traditional Amis dance performances, opportunities to try on traditional costumes, and prize quizzes to help international visitors better understand Ruisui’s traditional arts and culture.

In addition to participating in the exhibition, each scenic small town has also planned various discounts and activities locally. For example, Miaoli Sanyi will offer a NT$299 combo ticket including a steam train ride and entry to the Woodcarving Museum, allowing visitors to leisurely explore the nostalgic railway. Nantou Jiji is providing “Jiji Town Good Deals,” where during the event period, those presenting proof of travel on the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle’s “Xitou → Sun Moon Lake” route can enjoy discounts at up to 16 shops within Jiji. Changhua Lukang has partnered with dozens of shops to offer various promotions. From now until December 31, visitors who say the secret phrase “Lukang Town, grab your good deal” at participating stores will receive special offers. Tainan Anping will arrange various water activities such as canoeing at the Anping “Historical Water Park” every weekend from now until August 25, offering visitors the chance to get on the water. On August 22–23, the “Complete the 16th Year, Joyfully Transition to Adulthood” ritual ceremony will also be held.

American tourist Paul, who has been to Taipei on business several times, said that what makes Taipei most attractive is its high degree of internationalization, which is very convenient for foreigners, along with its many international cuisines—whether Japanese or local Taiwanese seafood—all of which are very memorable. The Japanese couple Mr. and Mrs. Kobashiro, visiting Taiwan for the first time, were impressed by Xinyi District—one of the Top 3 Featured Small Towns—especially admiring its neat streets and diverse architectural styles, and they also loved the expansive view of Taipei City from the Taipei 101 observatory.

Through Taipei 101, which attracts numerous domestic and international tourists every year, the Top 10 Scenic Small Towns will be introduced to more foreign visitors. (Photographed by MOOK Scenic Spots Travel Life Net, Chen Guanxin)
