A national film — "Dream Sugar Factory" — initiated by a band and born out of the desire to protect a century-old sugar factory from demolition, is set to begin shooting in Tainan this October. Xie Shi, leader of the "Ten Drums Art Percussion Group," said the motivation for making this film lies in the fact that this century-old sugar factory was originally slated for demolition. However, moved by the memories the sugar factory has given to Taiwanese society, they hope to invite the public to the cinema to watch the film and thereby participate in and support the "Protect the Century-Old Sugar Factory" campaign, allowing the sugar factory to continue coexisting with Taiwan.

The film tells the story of three childhood best friends who, inspired by a video game, discover a wish-granting magic to save one of their classmates who suddenly falls seriously ill. This magic not only rescues their friend but also revives a long-shuttered sugar factory. The female lead is played by Lu Mingjun, who portrays a teacher and will act alongside seven lively children. Lu Mingjun laughed and said she will do her utmost to “manage” these seven “aliens” well.

"Dream Sugar Factory" is expected to film at locations such as the Ten Drums Culture Village, Rende Sugar Refinery, Xinying Sugar Refinery, Wushulin Sugar Refinery, Jiangnan Resort, and Liuying Chi Mei Medical Center. Chen Jun’an, Director of the Tainan City Tourism Bureau, stated that over 90% of the scenes in "Dream Sugar Factory" will be shot in Tainan. By using the film to promote and revitalize Tainan’s attractions and the century-old sugar factory, the project aims to increase attention and spark new discussions. Director Yang Mengru, who hails from Guanmiao in Tainan, is believed to be able to capture the essence and strength of Tainan’s land. The film will begin shooting in October at the Rende Sugar Refinery in Tainan, wrap up by the end of November, and is scheduled for release during the summer of 2013.
