On March 20, there were 27 new confirmed cases in Taiwan, bringing the total to 135. Most of the newly confirmed cases on the 20th were relatively young, with only one in their 80s.

One new death on the 20th was Case 34, who had underlying health conditions and poor status, and died from septicemia. Most are imported cases infected while traveling abroad. As the epidemic continues to spread in various countries, all countries' travel alerts have been raised to Level 3.

The countries visited by those confirmed this time include the United States, Canada, France, Turkey, Egypt, and more. Case 134 is a locally transmitted case, initially understood to have had contact with people returning from Europe and mainland China.

Another Egyptian traveler has tested positive, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in that Egyptian tour group to six, including the previous five.

A classmate of Case 59 has also tested positive; they were seated in front of Case 59. Although under home quarantine, they were confirmed positive on the 20th.

Meanwhile, the much-discussed Cases 58 and 64 have been revealed to be from the same school and department (Dentistry) as Spanish-returning students. In addition, Case 80 is also a Spanish-returning student. Whether they knew each other beforehand and if there are signs of concealment has drawn attention. However, the CECC believes it has no authority to interfere in this and is focusing primarily on epidemic prevention and contact tracing. This group of students included 62 who returned to Taiwan, 37 underwent testing, 28 have been tested so far, and 3 have tested positive.

On March 19, about 6,000 inbound travelers arrived, slightly fewer than expected. On the 20th, the number of inbound travelers was again lower than projected, likely due to many canceling their plans to enter Taiwan after the ban was issued.

Inbound travelers are being diverted starting at the air bridge, with quarantine and record tracking conducted at the airport to strengthen border epidemic management.
