The beautiful mountains and waters of Sun Moon Lake are a renowned domestic tourist attraction. In 2012, the Sun Moon Lake lakeside cycling route was voted one of the world’s top ten most beautiful bike paths by CNNGO, a travel lifestyle website under CNN. In response, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration, in conjunction with the 2012 Taiwan Cycling Festival series of events, will launch the family-friendly “Sun Moon Lake COME!BIKEDAY” cycling event on November 11. The event offers two routes: a 30-kilometer and a 10-kilometer ride, allowing participants to cycle along the Sun Moon Lake highway and the water bike path. Against the backdrop of the scenic lakeside roads, visitors can take in the full beauty of Sun Moon Lake. Registration for this event is now open, with a limit of 2,000 participants.

The event offers two route options: a 30-kilometer self-challenge lap around the lake, and a 10-kilometer leisurely ride. Registration fees are NT$600 and NT$400 respectively. Participants will receive a long-sleeve sweatshirt, a large sports towel, snacks, and a set of custom-designed event stamps. Those in the self-challenge group will also receive a commemorative medal and certificate. There will also be prize draws worth over NT$100,000 at the event, with prizes to be won by lucky cyclists.

Additionally, this event is part of the 2012 Taiwan Cycling Festival — “Taiwan King of the Mountains.” Riders from both Taiwan and abroad who participated in the King of the Mountains event on November 10 will also take part. On-site cyclists will have the chance to see stars such as the 2010 Tour de France King of the Mountains, the 2011 Tour de France Combativity Award winner, and the 2012 Giro d’Italia stage champion.
